For this project I worked through an agency and I can’t name the end client or provide screen shots. The agency came to me wanting help creating a food-ordering system for a startup consumer mail-order meal supplier. The agency normally work with WordPress but the requirements for this project were not a good fit with off-the-shelf eCommerce. I was looking to do a proper commercial Laravel web application build and this looked like a good opportunity so I worked with the agency and my good friend Keiron at Geekery as a Service to put together a proposal and, once agreed, we got building!
The agency we worked with did the design and markup (HTML/CSS), while Keiron and I focussed on the data model, ordering system and back-end build.
As the startup’s business evolved the requirements changed. So we worked together with the agency and client to minimise both the financial and technical impact of this and maximise value. These later phases of this project included bulk ordering discounts, coupons, and a re-worked meal structure and order screen.
We built, in a very short time and for very low cost, a highly-customised web application using modern web frameworks and technologies. We delivered something that just could not be done with off-the-shelf eCommerce software, and the tools we used allow for a high degree of flexibility moving forward.
I’m really proud of this, my first Laravel build for a client. And I hope the success will lead to many more.
