The Oikos website has has a new coat of paint. Here’s what’s happened and why.
I started Oikos a couple of years ago. It was a spare-time thing that took off and became a huge success. In the early days I built myself a home-grown WordPress theme which acted as a little mini project in itself.
I’ve learned a lot since then and the web development world has moved along a bit too and for a long time I’ve been wanting to rework the Oikos website.
The problem is…I’ve just been too busy!
So I’ve taken my own advice: for small, busy clients with low budgets and resource levels, an off-the-shelf theme provides much better value than a custom design and development job.
I’ve therefore spent a few hours putting up a premium, off-the-shelf theme, with a few tweaks and extra plugins. It’s still a bit of a work in progress, but it’s good enough to ‘go live’.
As clients and potential clients I hope that you won’t be disappointed in this approach. It doesn’t show off my development skills – I hope that the projects in my portfolio do that! – but it does keep my availability up and my costs down, and those things are more important to the Oikos ethos.
